Tudor quietly expanded the Ranger lineup. No press event, just new references appearing on the website. Classic Tudor move.
What’s New #
36mm Case Size
The original modern Ranger launched in 2022 at 39mm only. Now there’s a 36mm option using the same MT5400 movement with 70-hour power reserve.
Smaller wrists rejoice. 36mm with the Ranger’s tool watch aesthetics fills a gap that Tudor had overlooked.
Dune White Dial
Both 36mm and 39mm now come with an off-white “Dune” dial option. The color is warm - not pure white, more like aged paper.
It softens the Ranger’s utilitarian design without losing its character. Works surprisingly well with the cathedral hands and Arabic numerals.
Everything Else Unchanged #
Same 100m water resistance. Same rivet-style bracelet or fabric strap options. Same price point around €2,800-3,000.
The black dial versions continue unchanged for buyers who prefer the classic look.
Competition #
The Ranger competes directly with the Rolex Explorer at less than half the price. Tudor knows this. They’re not trying to beat the Explorer - they’re providing an alternative for people who can’t justify €7,500+ on a time-only watch.
At €2,800 for the 36mm Dune, the Ranger offers serious value. In-house movement, proper finishing, a brand name that means something. Hard to argue with.
My Take #
The 36mm size should have launched alongside the 39mm in 2022. Better late than never.
The Dune dial is a nice option but won’t convert people who prefer the classic black. It’s about expanding appeal, not replacing what works.
Tudor’s strategy of quiet updates rather than major launches makes sense for their position in the market. They’re the reliable choice - consistent, fairly priced, no hype needed.
