The Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon gets a refresh. Ceramic everything, updated movement, refined details.
The Changes #
The new DSOTM keeps the 44.25mm black ceramic case that defined the original. But the internal movement has been upgraded to the Co-Axial Master Chronometer caliber 3861 - same as the current Moonwatch Professional.
That means METAS certification. Better magnetic resistance. Improved accuracy specs. The movement upgrade alone makes this more than a cosmetic refresh.
The ceramic bezel now features laser-ablated tachymeter markings with Super-LumiNova fill. Previous versions used pad printing which could wear over time. This should prove more durable.
Case construction remains monoblock ceramic. No caseback - you can’t see the movement. That’s intentional. The Dark Side is about the exterior presence, not movement finishing.
The Lineup #
Three colorways at launch:
Black Black - All black ceramic with subtle grey accents. The stealth option.
Pitch Black - Black ceramic with yellow-green lume accents. More visible in low light.
Apollo 8 - Laser-ablated dial depicting the lunar surface as seen during the Apollo 8 mission. Most distinctive of the three.
Pricing #
All three variants land around €13,000. That’s roughly €1,000 more than the previous generation.
Worth the Upgrade? #
If you already own an older DSOTM, the movement upgrade is nice but probably not essential. The 9300 series caliber in previous versions is excellent.
For new buyers, the 2025 version is the obvious choice. Better movement, improved bezel durability, same dramatic aesthetic.
The Dark Side of the Moon remains one of the most visually striking chronographs on the market. It’s a statement piece that happens to be a serious watch. Omega knows exactly what they’re doing here.
