Record broken. Three Omega Speedmasters spotted in one day, all on different wrists, none at a watch event.
First one: Hesalite Professional on a guy getting coffee. Worn bracelet, scratched crystal, clearly loved. We nodded at each other.
Second one: Racing dial on a leather strap. Younger guy, maybe 25. Asked him about it - his first “real” watch purchase after saving for two years. Good choice.
Third one: Moonwatch on a woman at a restaurant. Unusual to see women wearing the full 42mm size but she pulled it off perfectly. Didn’t want to be weird and approach her.
The Speedmaster might be the most successful watch design in history. 68 years of production with minimal changes. Astronauts wore it to the moon. Racing drivers wore it at Le Mans. Regular people wear it to get coffee.
No other watch occupies this much cultural space while remaining genuinely wearable. Submariners come close but feel more like status symbols now. Speedmasters still feel like tools.
Three in one day. In a medium-sized European city. Not at Watches and Wonders or a collector meetup.
Omega did something remarkable and the market keeps proving it.
