Two weeks in Greece. One watch decision.
Normally I’d agonize over this. Bring the nice one and risk damage? Bring the beater and feel like I’m missing out? The eternal collector’s dilemma.
This year I simplified. The Perun Veles is coming with me.
150m water resistance means swimming isn’t a problem. Sapphire crystal survives normal vacation abuse. The SW200-1 movement is widely serviceable if something goes wrong. And at €399, replacing it wouldn’t require a second mortgage.
But more importantly - I actually want to wear it. The pointer date feels special every time I check the time. The Slavic symbolism connects to my heritage in ways that Swiss brands never will.
Travel watches should be three things: tough enough to survive, nice enough to enjoy, and replaceable enough to not ruin your trip if something happens.
The Veles checks all three boxes.
I’ll report back if the Aegean Sea disagrees.
