Seiko has been timing world athletics events since 1964. For the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, they’re releasing a limited edition Speedtimer that actually looks worth buying.
The Watch #
The Prospex Speedtimer Solar Chronograph in blue and gold colorway. The blue references the Tokyo skyline at dusk. The gold accents celebrate the championship medals.
40mm case, solar-powered chronograph movement, sapphire crystal, 100m water resistance. The V192 caliber offers 6-month power reserve when fully charged.
The caseback features the Tokyo 2025 emblem. The dial has “Official Timer” printed discretely at 6 o’clock.
The Price #
€550. Limited to 3,500 pieces worldwide.
For a solar chronograph with decent finishing and genuine event association, that’s reasonable. Not the steal that some Seiko limited editions represent, but not overpriced either.
Should You Care? #
If athletics means something to you - maybe you ran track, follow the sport, or attended Tokyo 2025 - this is a nice commemorative piece.
If you just want a solar chronograph, the standard Speedtimer lineup offers similar specs without the premium.
Seiko’s event partnerships typically age well. The 1964 Olympics watches are collectible now. Whether the 2025 World Championships will have similar cachet in 50 years is impossible to predict.
Available July 2025 at Seiko boutiques and authorized dealers.
